Overview

Helen joined Bangor University in January 2023. She specialises in international criminal law, with a particular interest in post conflict justice in East Africa. She is also a qualified lawyer. She has expertise in French and has worked for many years as an interpreter in legal contexts.

Research Interests

Dr. Trouille's main research interests are in the areas of international criminal law, transitional justice, and community reconciliation post conflict, with a particular focus on East Africa. She has written on the prosecution by the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) of sexual offences committed against women during the genocide, and on the trials of Rwandan genocide suspects in France, under the doctrine of universal jurisdiction. She is also interested in regional integration as a motor for consolidating and enhancing peace. 

Postgraduate Project Opportunities

Dr Trouille welcomes inquiries from potential postgraduate research students in aspects of international criminal law, transitional justice, and justice and reconciliation in post-conflict societies. She has a particular interest in post conflict justice in East Africa.
