Mrs Bethan Davies-Jones
Lecturer in Medical Sciences (Cellular Pathology)
Overview
I am an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist and higher education academic with over 20 years of combined experience in NHS diagnostic services and university-level teaching. I contribute extensively to curriculum design, academic leadership, and student support across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
I deliver teaching across a range of modules and programmes, supervise student research projects and dissertations, and lead the design and review of curricula that reflect current scientific and clinical practice. My teaching incorporates inclusive pedagogical strategies, active learning, and reflective practice to engage a diverse student cohort. I also contribute to cross-disciplinary initiatives, assessment design, and quality assurance processes, while supporting academic integrity.
I have led strategic initiatives that embed personal and professional development into the curriculum, enhance peer support, and promote inclusive graduate outcomes.
Alongside my teaching and student-focused roles, I contribute to School governance, mentor colleagues, and support institutional priorities aimed at enhancing the student experience. I also play an active role in student recruitment through open days and outreach, while also helping to raise the School’s external academic profile.
Prior to entering academia, I held senior clinical roles in immunology and cellular pathology within the NHS, with responsibilities in service development, quality assurance, and the mentoring of early-career scientists. This professional background continues to inform my academic identity, allowing me to align teaching with current clinical and regulatory standards.
