Overall aims and purpose
This module provides a framework for you to evidence and reflect on your engagement with professional development. This includes evidence of your own on-the-job training and reflection on how skills developed through this training supports your development as a leader and innovator in a health profession. This will provide an opportunity for you to understand how ongoing professional reflection can help you to structure your development, learn from your mistakes, and plan for the future. This will also enable you to gain a better understanding of your professional field and the opportunities available and emerging within this field.
This module provides you with an opportunity to gain academic credit for their applied understanding of leadership in health. You must submit evidence of engaging in at least three CPD activities within your own professional role. You will then be supported to produce your portfolio (incorporating a professional summary) and your reflective journal through online resources and meetings with the course tutor.
B+ to B- • Reflective understanding of own skills and knowledge with recognition of skill/knowledge gaps • Some independent research in continuous professional opportunities • Critical awareness of some development opportunities showing realistic future planning • Coherent arguments with some evidence underpinning the need for future development activities • Honesty and some originality in approach, interpretation, and/or voice • Focused and well structured • Good presentation with accurate and appropriate expression • Mostly correct format in appropriate referencing style
A* to A- • Reflective insight into own skills and knowledge with critical recognition of skill/knowledge gaps • Extensive independent research in continuous professional opportunities • Critical awareness of extensive development opportunities showing realistic and detailed future planning • Logically defended arguments with evidence underpinning the need for future development activities • Originality and honesty in approach, interpretation, and/or voice • Highly focused and well structured • Excellent presentation with accurate and appropriate expression • Correct format in appropriate referencing style
C+ to C- • Reflective recognition of some skills and knowledge with basic recognition of skill/knowledge gaps • Small degree of independent research in continuous professional opportunities • Awareness of some development opportunities showing some future planning • Basic arguments explaining the need for future development activities • Honesty and some originality in approach, interpretation, and/or voice • Focused but with some irrelevant material and weaknesses in structure • Acceptable presentation with appropriate expression • Attempt at correct format in appropriate referencing style
Demonstrate an evidence-informed and comprehensive understanding of behaviour and effective behaviour change approaches for physical activity, health, and wellbeing.
Show resilience and the ability to build resilience in others.
Evidence reflective self-awareness of own leadership journey in relation to own professional standards and next steps for development.
Identify and analyse areas for self and organisational improvement showing independent learning ability and reflective self-awareness.
Teaching and Learning Strategy
Lectures available as part of a resource pack to guide the student through the process of evidencing their own CPD and producing a reflective professional portfolio. Some lectures may be delivered pre-recorded with scheduled access to lecturers for questions live online. Other lectures will be delivered live online.
Open access drop in sessions available every week for students to gain support on their continuous professional development. Sessions will be delivered via remote access (e.g. video-call)
Group-based sessions to discuss CPD, its role, reflection on activity and learning. Seminars will be delivered via remote access (e.g. video-call).
Producing portfolio of evidence, including professional summary and reflective journal.

- Self-awareness & Reflectivity - Having an awareness of your own strengths, weaknesses, aims and objectives. Able to regularly review, evaluate and reflect upon the performance of yourself and others
