Overview

This course may include but is not limited to Pathophysiology Respiratory/ Cardiovascular/Renal/Neurological systems, Haemodynamic monitoring, Fluid Management, Pharmacology, Principles of Ventilation, Respiratory support, tracheostomy, condition specific care, Haemofiltration, Ethical consideration of withdrawal of care/end of life/Organ Donation

Assessment Strategy

-good -Very good understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module and evidence of additional evidence gained by the student. Very good understanding of professional issues in critical care. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade B- in the Grading Criteria

-excellent -Excellent understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module and evidence of additional evidence gained by the student. Learning Outcomes

• Critically analyse and evaluate the advanced care and management of the critically ill patient and their family in the critical care environment

• Critically analyse and evaluate the provision and application of evidence based practice within the speciality of critical care

• Critically appraise and synthesise the concept of legal and ethical complexities related to critical care

• Critically examine and evaluate the appropriate interventions when caring for a critically ill patient and their family

• Demonstrate a deep and systematic understanding of altered anatomy and physiology
