Bangor University students to take part in community tree plant for BBC’s The One Show

Bangor University students will be rolling up their sleeves in front of BBC’s The One Show cameras to help the Maes y Pant community group in Gresford (near Wrexham) to help transform a former quarry into a biodiverse community resource. Bangor University’s Students for Treborth Action Group (STAG) and Horticultural Organic Garden Society (HOG Soc) have been asked to lend a helping hand.

The Woodland Trust have donated over 400 trees to the project and Bangor students will be working alongside the local community to help to clear scrub, dig soil and plant trees. The main efforts will be taking place on Wednesday 21^st November and the BBC will be filming the day’s activities before broadcasting live from Gresford later that evening as part of the One Show’s ‘One Show to the Rescue’ series.

STAG (Student Treborth Action Group) is a student society working to maintain and develop the University’s Treborth Botanic Garden, which hosts many rare species and works to conserve threatened Welsh plants. HOG Soc (Horticultural Organic Garden Society) has its own student-led community garden in the heart of Upper Bangor. Since 2010 HOG Soc has turned this previously disused land into a thriving organic garden.
