Concerts and speakers announced for Women’s Work in Music conference
The School of Music and Media is hosting its Second International Conference on Women’s Work in Music this year.
The Conference takes place on 4 - 6 September, and wewill be welcoming prominent speakers and musicians, including music academics, practitioners, funders, broadcasters, journalists and other music professionals.
Conference highlights include:
- Three days of individual Papers, Lecture-Recitals, Panels and Poster presentations.
- Keynote Presentations by leading US scholar Dr. Liane Curtis, President of The Women’s Philharmonic Advocacy, and Deborah Annetts, Chief Executive of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM).
There will also be two conferences that areopen to the public:

Join usat 18.15 on Wednesday 4 September for a concert that celebrates the work of Rhian Samuel, one of our finest Welsh composers. Virtuoso violinist
Madeleine Mitchell – described by The Times as ‘one of Britain's liveliest musical forces (and) foremost violinists' – and pianist Nigel Foster, one of Britain’s leading accompanists, perform some of Samuel’s most exhilarating chamber pieces. The composer herself will be introducing the music.

Thursday 5 September 2019, Neuadd Powis Hall, 18.45
Illuminate, one of Britain’s most exciting music ensembles, will be lighting up Bangor University on Thursday 5 September. Soprano Patricia Auchterlonie and the Illuminate String Quartet present a programme of works by composers Joanna Ward, Sarah Westwood, Soul Zisso, Blair Boyd,
Caroline Bordignon and Angela Elizabeth Slater, featured alongside historical works by Barbara Strozzi, Rebecca Clarke, Ruth Crawford Seeger, Vivian Fine and many more!
The evening event begins at 18.45 with a pre-concert talk featuring Angela Elizabeth Slater, founder of Illuminate, in conversation with composer and critic Steph Power.
