Mr Gwilym Owen nominated for ‘Law Lecturer of the Year’ award
Another member of teaching staff at Bangor Law School has been nominated for a prestigious teaching award.
Gwilym Owen, Lecturer in Law, has been shortlisted for the ‘Law Lecturer of the Year’ prize at LawCareers.Net’s annual Training and Recruitment Awards. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on Thursday, 22 May.
Gwilym’s nomination reflects the high quality of pastoral care for which Bangor Law School is renowned. Gwilym himself has been instrumental in maximising students’ career opportunities by co-ordinating an internship scheme and organising the School’s first ever careers fair, which gave current students an invaluable opportunity to network with barristers, solicitors and lawyers. He has also devised a workshop for the Land Law module, in which students, academics and practitioners discuss legal concepts in relation to actual deeds.
“I am most grateful to the students in the Law School for nominating me for this award”, said Gwilym, who joined Bangor University in 2011 after thirty years in private practice as a solicitor. “I wish them every success in their future careers."
Gwilym’s nomination follows Sarah Nason’s recent success in reaching the final round of Oxford University Press’s ‘Law Teacher of the Year’ award. The University was also recently shortlisted as one of the top 10 institutions in the UK for ‘course and lecturers’ in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2014.
