Awel graduated from Bangor University with a BSc in Psychology in 2011. She was then awarded a 1+3 scholarship by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol to complete an MSc in Psychological Research, and a PhD in Psychology. Awel joined the teaching team at Bangor as a Welsh-medium lecturer in 2015, and is funded by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.
Awel is the Welsh-medium co-ordinator at the School of Psychology, and as such is involved in many modules across all three years. She is currently the Module Organizer on several of the Welsh-medium undergraduate modules (including Research Methods and Scientific Writing and Communication), and is working with other members of the teaching team to increase the School’s Welsh provision. Awel is also the module organiser of a third year module that focuses on the cross disciplinary topic of neuroaesthetics, and lectures on the Bilingualism: Language, Cognition, and Literacy module.
Awel’s research mainly focuses on bilingualism. She is particularly interested in the way a bilingual’s languages interact, and uses a variety of research methods (including eyetracking and ERPs) in her research. Awel is also interested in the perception and appreciation of music and poetry. Awel currently supervises undergraduate research projects, and holds a supervisory role with a Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol funded doctoral candidate.
