Mrs Trys Burke
Overview
After gaining her undergraduate degree and PGCE, Trys taught in outdoor education for several years. She moved into coach education, training, and assessment, working at Plas y Brenin, and abroard in the USA, Finland, and Norway. Later she worked for Canoe Wales as a Club Development Officer. Work in this role sparked her interest in peer support and its impact on individual and community wellbeing. She returned to Bangor to follow up this research interest and completed an MSc in Applied Sport and Exercise Psychology. She is currently undertaking a PhD in Health and Wellbeing.
Trys has been an external member of teaching staff since 2009 working with Snowdonia Watersports to deliver the Waterbased modules of the Adventure Sport Science undergraduate degree programme. She formally joined the faculty in 2022 to teach a third-year module in Outdoor and Adventure Therapy.

Teaching and Supervision
Trys is the module organiser for JXH-3085 Outdoor and Adventure Therapy She has also taught the water-based modules for the Adventure Sport Science undergraduate degree.
She is happy to supervise undergraduate and Masters students on projects involving health and wellbeing that encompass outdoor activities, adventurous activities, outdoor and/or adventure therapy, or peer support.
Research Interests
Trys’s research interests lie within health and wellbeing and include examination of the role played by peer support, nature, and adventurous activities, in improving both individual and community wellbeing across populations.
