Elen graduated from Bangor University with a joint honours degree in Welsh and Welsh History. Following a period as a Trainee Archivist at the National Library of Wales she completed her Diploma in Archive Administration under the supervision of Prof. Tony Carr.

She is now a Registered Archivist and responsible for the Archives and Special Collections at Bangor University – a position which has a wide range of responsibilities in terms of providing care and access to the archival collections and rare printed material that forms an integral and important part of Bangor University.

 

 

 

 

Lynette Williams - Archivist

Lynette graduated from Bangor with a degree in Welsh History & Archaeology before obtaining a Masters in Heritage Management. She spent time working for CADW before embarking on a career in Archives and has achieved an MSc in Archives Administration from Aberystwyth University.

As Senior Archivist Lynette is responsible for collections access, development and management, with specific curatorial responsibility for the University records dating from the establishment of the institution up to the present day.

Lynette works part-time for the department as she also works for the University’s Legal and Compliance Services where she oversees the management of the institution’s response to information legislation requests (including all Data Protection, Freedom of Information and Environmental Information Regulations enquiries) as well as the corporate Record Centre. 

 

 

 

Shan Robinson  - Special Collections Co-ordinator

Shan has worked at the University for forty years, twenty years at the library and a further twenty years at the Archives. Her main responsibilities are with the printed special collections and rare books.

She studied for her degree in Social Studies through the Department of Lifelong Learning, and then went on to complete her Masters in Women’s Studies at the same department in 2013. She completed a CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Short Course on rare book librarianship with the department of Information Studies at Aberystwyth University in 2016. During lockdown 2020 she undertook an online course with university college Dublin on the history of the book.

Today she works closely with the collections in the Welsh Library and has a particular interest in the history of Welsh women. Her M.A. dissertation topic was on the history of Women’s education in Wales. She is one of the representatives for north Wales on the committee of The Women’s Archive of Wales, a group committed to promoting the study, and rescuing and preserving the sources, of women's history in Wales.

 

 

 

Gwyn Williams - Senior Archives Assistant

Gwyn joined the Archives and Special Collections department in 2021 after many years working for Bangor University’s Library Services where he was responsible for supervising the team at the Normal Site Library and providing academic support to the Colleges on the Normal Site.

As the Senior Archives Assistant, Gwyn's main responsibilities include providing a quality user focussed service, offering advice and guidance to visitors, supporting the teaching, learning and research needs of the University and assisting members of the public to make best use of the Archives collections.
