Poetry Bridges: Visiting Writers Luke Kennard: Poetry and Fiction
To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Telford Suspension Bridge, English Literature and Creative Writing (School of Arts, Culture and Language) present a series of guest writer events to celebrate poetry as a means of bridging: connecting ideas, places and people. These are free, public events open to all, supported by the generosity of alumni through the Bangor Fund and by Literature Wales.
Luke Kennard is a poet and novelist who lives in Birmingham. He won an Eric Gregory Award in 2005 for his debut collection of poetry, and the Forward Prize for Best Collection in 2021 for his sixth, Notes on the Sonnets. His latest collection, The Book of Jonah reimagines the story of the reluctant biblical prophet. His third novel, Black Bag, is out this year from Hachette and concerns a social psychology experiment that goes catastrophically wrong. He is Professor of Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Birmingham.
