Overview
Good curriculum planning and design is an essential part of any medical and health professional programme. This module focuses on planning and designing programmes, courses and sessions in academic, health service and clinical settings. This module introduces the concept of curriculum planning and gives students the opportunity to plan, design and evaluate a curriculum in their own educational context.
The indicative content will include: Sharing an understanding of what constitutes a 'curriculum' The political & educational context within which curricula are planned and developed Curriculum approaches, models and structures in medical and HPE The curriculum planning and design cycle Course and session design Lesson planning Evaluation and quality assurance

a 4000 word essay in which you are required to: (1) Critically appraise one or two current trends in medical and health professions education and how they enhance or impede student learning (1600 words) (2) provide an example of a module or lesson in which you are involved or which you have designed (no word limit, not graded) (3) Using learning theories and principles of curriculum design, critically evaluate the design and structure of the module ( 2000 words) highlighting strengths and limitations and how this could be improved (4) Provide three things that you have learned from this module and how you will put these into practice (400 words)
