Overall aims and purpose

Mae’r modiwl cyfrwng Cymraeg hwn yn astudio’r iaith Gymraeg yn ei chyd-destun ieithyddol cyfoes ac hanesyddol. Byddwn yn edrych ar nodweddion canolraddol o ramadeg Cymraeg ac hefyd yn ystyried nodweddion am hanes a phresennol yr iaith yn ei chyd-destun cymdeithasol.

Byddwn yn trafod a dadansoddi gramadeg o safbwynt e.e. treiglo (sut a phryd mae treiglo'n digwydd yn yr iaith safonol), ffonoleg (e.e. sut mae sain y Gymraeg yn wahanol rhwng acenion De a Gogledd Cymru), cystrawen (e.e. sut i ddisgrifio strwythur gwahanol frawddegau Cymraeg), ayb.

Byddwn yn ystyried defnydd yr iaith hefyd, gan feddwl am beth yw sefyllfa'r Gymraeg heddiw a beth sydd yn dylanwadu ar ei defnydd a'i ffurf. Yn ogystal, byddwn yn trafod o le daeth yr iaith Gymraeg a sut rydyn ni wedi cyrraedd sefyllfa fodern yr iaith. Byddwn yn edrych ar e.e. sut mae plant yn caffael neu ddysgu Cymraeg, sut y gall pobl gael gwahanol agweddau at ieithoedd a'i siaradwyr, a sut mae pobl ddwyieithog yn defnyddio dwy iaith ar yr un pryd, beth yw dylanwad iaith fwyafrifol (fel Saesneg) ar iaith leiafrifol (fel Cymraeg), ayb.

Pan yn berthnasol, bydd y modiwl hwn yn adeiladu ar ac yn datblygu’r sgiliau a’r wybodaeth a ddysgwyd yn QCL-1018 (Disgrifio Iaith) a/neu QCB-1113 Iaith a Chymdeithas.

Bydd myfyrwyr yn debygol o ddysgu am bynciau fel:

  • Ffonoleg y Gymraeg (canolraddol)
  • Treiglo yn y Gymraeg
  • Cystrawen Cymraeg (canolraddol)
  • Agweddau at y Gymraeg ac at ddwyieithrwydd
  • Hanes y Gymraeg
  • Addysg a pholisi ieithyddol yng Nghymru
  • Defnydd y Gymraeg mewn gwahanol sefyllfaoedd
  • Shifft iaith a newid ieithyddol yn y cyd-destun Cymraeg
  • Iaith plant

Gafael ardderchog ar brif nodweddion ieithyddol y Gymraeg. Gallu uchel mewn adnabod yr agweddau rhain mewn testunau llafar/ysgrifenedig. Gallu uchel mewn dadansoddi amrywiaeth yn nodweddion y Gymraeg ar draws peuoedd a chyweiriau. Gallu uchel mewn cymharu gwahanol nodweddion o ramadeg y Gymraeg gyda gramadeg ieithoedd eraill. Yn arddangos meistrolaeth mewn trawsgrifio Cymraeg tafodieithol gan ddefnyddio symbolau seinegol ac o hyn o beth yn gallu gwahaniaethu gyda gallu uchel rhwng gwahanol systemau sain tafodieithol. Yn arddangos gallu ganolraddol uchel o’r ffyrdd y mae nodweddion ieithyddol y Gymraeg wedi newid yn y gorffennol a sut y gall ei strwythur newid yn y dyfodol. Subject specific skills

  • Understanding of the nature of bi/multilingualism - students will demonstrate familiarity with phenomena and findings relating to the nature of bilingual and multilingual individuals and communities.
  • Writing & scholarly conventions - students will be able to present data, argumentation, findings and references in written form in keeping with the conventions current in language science and English language studies.
  • Analysis & interpretation skills - students will be able to analyse, interpret data accurately, and draw appropriate conclusions based on the application of appropriate analytic and theoretical frameworks available in linguistics and English language studies.
  • Research skills - students will be able undertake independent research, involving formulating a research question, identifying and deploying appropriate linguistic methodology (theoretical or empirical) and data collection techniques (theoretical, experimental or field-based), and the selection and application of appropriate theoretical frameworks in order to adequately address the research question.
