Overview
Are you interested in exploring the diverse ways in which individuals experience and interpret religious phenomena? Our postgraduate research module in Religious Experience offers the opportunity to delve into this fascinating field of study. Through an independent research project, students will have the freedom to select an area of religious experience that interests them, whether it be mystical experiences, near-death experiences, divine encounters, or religious visions.
This module offers a unique interdisciplinary approach to the study of religious experience, drawing on insights from philosophy, theology, psychology, and anthropology. Students will engage with a range of theoretical perspectives and methodologies, and develop their skills in independent research, critical analysis, and communication.

Learning Outcomes

- To read critically both primary and secondary texts relating to specific and abstract principles of philosophy and or religious studies
- To structure a complex argument, in essay form, relating to philosophical and or religious issues of contemporary concern

Description
For this assessment, you will undertake an independent study of 5000 words on a topic of your choosing, related to the philosophical study of religious experience. This is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your critical thinking skills and your ability to engage with complex philosophical issues. You will be expected to identify a research question or problem, conduct a literature review, and develop a clear argument that engages with relevant philosophical theories and concepts. Your paper should demonstrate a nuanced understanding of the topic and a high level of analytical and argumentative skills. You will need to provide evidence to support your claims, and you may draw on a range of sources, including primary and secondary literature, as well as empirical studies.
