Doctoral School message from Dean of PGR (circulated 17/03/2020)

Annwyl Ymchwilydd Ôl-raddedig,

Fel y gwyddoch, mae rhaglenni ôl-raddedig dan bwysau o gwmpas y byd, mewn amgylchiadau eithriadol sy’n achosi llawer o straen. Ym Mhrifysgol Bangor, rydyn ni’n gwbl ymwybodol y gall hyn achosi pryder a phoen meddwl. Os oes gennych chi ymholiadau neu bryderon penodol, cadwch mewn cysylltiad â’ch goruchwylwyr a/neu’ch tiwtoriaid personol yn ystod y cyfnod hwn. Yr unigolion hyn ddylai’ch prif bwyntiau cyswllt fod yn y brifysgol, o ran eich rhaglenni ymchwil ac unrhyw gwestiynau cysylltiedig.

Mae’r pwyllgor yn y brifysgol sy’n canolbwyntio ar brofiadau ymchwilwyr ôl-raddedig yn cwrdd i fynd i’r afael â materion cysylltiedig â chynllunio ar gyfer y dyfodol ac arweiniad pellach. Bydd cyngor gan y brifysgol, a fydd yn cael ei ddosbarthu maes o law, yn cynnwys y manylion hyn.

Am y tro, fodd bynnag, hoffwn achub ar y cyfle hwn i roi gwybod i chi y dylech gysylltu â’ch goruchwyliwr drwy e-bost/skype/ffôn (fel y bo’n briodol) ac i roi’r wybodaeth ganlynol i chi:

  1. Goruchwyliaeth: gall cyfarfodydd electronig (gweler uchod) barhau i gael eu cynnal fel arfer. Dylid trefnu’r rhain gyda’ch goruchwyliwr.

  2. Adolygiadau Blynyddol Ôl-raddedigion: bydd y cyfarfodydd hyn yn mynd rhagddynt ac yn cael eu cynnal, eto, yn electronig. Bydd cyfarfod eich adolygiad fel arfer yn cynnwys llwyfannau fideo-gynadledda neu aml-safle, fel Skype.

  3. Archwiliadau viva voce: yn unol â chanllawiau’r brifysgol, dylid trefnu’r cyfarfodydd hyn gan ddefnyddio llwyfannau aml-safle, fel Skype neu lwyfannau fideo-gynadledda.

Ar gyfer b./c., bydd eich tîm goruchwylio yn trafod â’r technegwyr priodol yn y brifysgol i sicrhau ei bod yn ymarferol bosib cynnal y cyfarfodydd hyn, a bydd yn rhoi’r wybodaeth ddiweddaraf i chi am y trefniadau.

Rydyn ni’n amlwg yn gweithio dan amgylchiadau eithriadol ar hyn o bryd, sy’n golygu bod rhaid aildrefnu a/neu addasu pob math o raglenni gwaith ac ymchwil mewn ymateb i sefyllfaoedd nad oedd modd eu rhagweld. Hoffwn ddiolch i chi am eich dealltwriaeth yn ystod y cyfnod heriol hwn.

Dymuniadau gorau,

Andrew Hiscock

Ysgol Ieithoedd, Llenyddiaethau ac Ieithyddiaeth

Dear Postgraduate Researcher

As you are fully aware, postgraduate programmes are unfolding globally in very exceptional and stressful circumstances and at Bangor University we are fully aware that this can be a source of multiple areas of concern and anxiety. If you have particular queries or concerns, do keep in contact with your supervisors and/or personal tutors at this time. These individuals should remain your primary point of contact with the university with regard to your programmes of research and related questions.

A university committee targeting the postgraduate researcher experience is meeting to address issues of forward planning and further guidance and these will be circulated shortly in forthcoming advice from the university.

However, for the present, I would like to take this opportunity to inform you not only that supervisor contact should be maintained by email/skype/telephone (as appropriate) but also that:

  1. Supervision: meetings by electronic means (see above) can continue to go ahead with the usual frequency. These should be organised in collaboration with your supervisor.

  2. Annual Postgraduate Reviews: these meetings will go ahead and be organised, again, by electronic means. Your review meeting will typically involve multi-site or video-conferencing platforms, such as skype.

  3. Viva voce examinations: in line with university guidance, these meetings should be organised using multi-site platforms, such as skype or video-conferencing platforms.

For b. and c. , your supervisory team will liaise with the appropriate university technicians to ensure the functionality of these meetings and it will keep you informed of arrangements.

We are clearly working in very exceptional circumstances at the moment in which all kinds of work and research programmes are having to be rescheduled and/or adapted in response to unexpected situations. I would like to thank for your understanding at this challenging time.

With best wishes

Andrew Hiscock

Professor in Early Modern Literature, Dean of Postgraduate Research
School of Languages, Literatures and Linguistics
