Catalan artist Matilde Obradors visits Bangor

On 16 November 2017, Barcelonan artist Matilde Obradors ( visited the School of Modern Languages and Cultures to perform ‘Eating Raw Sardines around these Wretched Lands’. The sardines had to be substituted with fresh raw squid and the performance was held in an idyllic location in Menai Bridge. Staff and students were able to engage with the artist afterwards at a question and answer session that was led and translated by Dr Eva Bru-Domínguez. Here, Obradors spoke generously about her intimate relationship with the sea, which she had regarded as a source of nourishment since a very early age. She discussed her concern about pollution, and especially the high levels of plastic that end up in the marine landscapes.
