Conference Review: 'Markers of Identity in Medieval Europe, 13th -15th centuries'

The inaugural conference of a new international research network took place at the Centre d'Etudes Superieures de Civilisation Medievale (CESCM), University of Poitiers, 17-18 November. Initiated and co-organised by Dr Raluca Radulescu, in collaboration with Dr Laurent Hablot (CESCM, Poitiers) and Dr Catalina Girbea (University of Bucharest), the conference focused on one of the main research strands of the research network, medieval heraldry and its presence in literary and non-literary works.

The conference was joined by Michel Pastoureau (EHESS, Paris), internationally known for his pioneering work on heraldry. Two further international conferences will be held in Bangor (end 2012/beginning 2013) and Bucharest (2013) on the two other strands of the network, geographical/regional identity and the body, respectively. Expressions of interest are welcome (send them to r.radulescu@bangor.ac.uk)
