Grant success: 'Insular Books: Vernacular Miscellanies in Late Medieval Britain'

This new international research network, supported by IMEMS under the 'Cultures of the Written Artefact' research strand, initiated and led by Dr Raluca Radulescu (English) in collaboration with Dr Margaret Connolly (University of St Andrews) has had its first success in securing funding for its first conference, held at and funded by the British Academy (London, 21-23 June 2012). The proceedings of this conference will also be published by the British Academy.

Several other conferences and events organised by the network will include a day at the National Library of Wales (a partner in the project), a colloquium at Bangor University and a series of sessions at the Early Book Society conference held in St Andrews in 2013. On all of these occasions original manuscripts in the holdings of the respective institutions will be used by the network participants to further discuss and develop methodologies of engagement with the manuscript book in the various languages of late medieval Britain (Latin, Anglo-Norman, Middle English, Middle Scots, Middle Welsh, etc). Expressions of interest are welcome (send them to r.radulescu@bangor.ac.uk).
