Paper named as one of the most cited ever in 'Business History' journal

A paper by a Bangor Business School academic is the third most cited article to have been published in leading industry journal ‘Business History’.

Entitled 'Strategic alliances and competitive edge: insight from Spanish and UK banking histories', Professor Bernardo Bátiz-Lazo’s paper established a framework to explore the competitive success of alliances by not-for-profit, deposit-accepting, financial institutions, whilst articulating an international comparison in the UK and Spain. Its main insight is how a loose collection of Spanish savings banks (‘cajas de ahorro’) was able to share dedicated investments in computer technology to gain great market share than commercial banks while, at the same time, British building societies were visionary and yet failed in their implementation.

Professor Bátiz-Lazo is a Professor of Business History and Bank Management at both the Bangor and London campuses of the Business School. ‘Business History’ is rated as a 4* journal, the highest grading possible for a research publication. To read the paper, click here.
