Professor Bernardo Batiz Lazo awarded research grant worth £15,000

Professor Bernardo Batiz-Lazo has been awarded a research grant worth £15,000 for a study of payment systems across three countries.

Professor Batiz-Lazo and Professor Gustavo del Angel of the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE), Mexico, were awarded the grant by the Mexico City-based Fudación de Estudios Financieros (Fundef), a joint venture between ITAM Business School (one of the leading providers of business and management education in Latin America) and the Asociación de Banqueros de Mexico (Mexican Banks Association). The 270,000-pesos travel and research grant, which also employs a research assistant in Mexico, will fund a 24-month project entitled ‘A comparative history of payment systems in Mexico, Spain and the UK: Towards a cashless society?’. During the project, Professors Batiz-Lazo and del Angel will deliver a joint paper in a 4* journal and an executive summary with the public policy implications of a cashless society for Mexico.
