Engage — lectures in engineering, computing and design
All welcome.
Join us on Friday the 3rd May at 2 p.m. in Main Lecture Theatre, Dean Street where we will have a special lecture from Professor Osvaldo Novais de Oliveira Junior (University of Sao Paulo, Brazil).
Engage – a series of lectures on a range of Engineering, Computing and Design topics, organised by Bangor University's IEEE Student Branch and School of Computer Science and Engineering.
Artificial Intelligence for Data Analysis and Beyond
The use of machine learning to process data, particularly in classification tasks, has resulted in the development of computer-assisted diagnosis and surveillance systems. In this talk, the emphasis will be on clinical diagnosis derived from sensing and biosensing data, which are analyzed using information visualization and machine learning models. Furthermore, the integration of machine learning with other artificial intelligence (AI) methodologies will be explored, especially regarding the potential transformative changes in the scientific method enabled by tools based on large-language models. These advancements in AI may yield a new paradigm where machines autonomously generate knowledge, significantly impacting society.
Prof. Osvaldo N. Oliveira Jr. received his PhD from Bangor University in 1990. He is now Director of the Sao Carlos Institute of Physics at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, President of the International Union of Materials Research Society, and Executive Editor of ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces. His research interests includes advanced materials for sensors and biosensors, and the use of Artificial Intelligence for data analysis and natural language processing.
