Dr Bettina Egger: Graphic Spaces: Doing Research in Comics Form as a Way of Exploring Eco-Memory of Place
CAInC Online Seminar
Bettina Egger (she/her) is a graphic novelist, illustrator and researcher. In 2020, she was awarded the Roland Faelske Prize for Outstanding Comics Research. In 2021-2022, she was a guest professor at the University of Alberta. Since 2023, she is working as a permanent research fellow at the Interuniversity Organization Arts & Knowledges Salzburg. Alongside her academic career, Bettina Egger has published numerous comics and illustrated books, mainly in French and German.
In this presentation, I will talk about my current research project, which consists of an exploration of places of eco-memory through comics-based research, and show examples of my previous comics-based research linked to memory and memory of place, such as a drawn interview with Emmanuel Guibert and my comics-based research undertaken with a team of archaeologists. Finally, participants will have the opportunity to do their own short comic strip on the topic of eco-memory. Please have some drawing material at hand.
