Opportunity to Study for 20 Credits in Germany during 1st Semester
There is an opportunity for 6 second year Social Sciences students to study in Germany for 10 days during this first semester, from 12th - 22th November 2012. This 20 credit module, Volunteer Engagement in Europe, is supported by Erasmus and validated by Bangor University. There are still places remaining for Bangor students.
This opportunity to study in Germany enables you to examine objectives, methods and results of voluntary action within a comparative European context. Themes to be explored include the motivations in becoming a volunteer, strategies to recruit, retain and manage volunteers, the role of voluntary action in identifying, prioritising and facilitating social change, volunteering across the life course and interactions between non-governmental organisations, the welfare state, service users and volunteers. You will be working alongside students from Spain, Finland, Poland and Germany. You will be supported throughout by 2 lecturers from Bangor University. There will be an opportunity for Welsh medium students to be supported by a Welsh speaking lecturer.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Acquire a comparative understanding of the role and significance of voluntary action in a number of different welfare regimes
2. Understand the motivations and recruitment mechanisms of volunteers
3. Be able to analyse the financial, administrative and other factors which promote successful voluntary activities
Finance:
You will receive a small daily subsistence allowance [currently projected at €27 per day] and will have 75 per cent of travel costs reimbursed via the Erasmus funding. Individual students will be required to meet additional costs for subsistence. Detailed information about likely costs will be available in the next few weeks.
