Criminal Records Policy and Procedures

The University has a duty of care to safeguard Vulnerable Groups, principally those who are under 18 years of age and ‘adults at risk’.

The Criminal Records Policy and Procedures outlines the following:

  • The Policy on the use of criminal record checks and the use of the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
  • The Policy on dealing with students and prospective students with criminal records and those barred from working with Vulnerable Groups

Suitability/Fitness to Practise Procedure

The University, in conjunction with its external partners, has a responsibility to ensure that students are suitable for professional programmes and that they are studying in line with ethical frameworks and regulatory guidance. To ensure that the public is protected and appropriate support is provided for students, the University has a duty to monitor students' health and conduct, and has in place a Suitability/Fitness to Practise Procedure that consider whether these may impact upon patient care.
