Bangor University has been named the top university in Wales in the 2027 University Compare Rankings.
The University continues to perform strongly at a national level, ranking 17th in the UK and maintaining its place within the top 20 universities across the country. This reflects sustained strength across key areas of the student experience.
This year’s rankings also show improvement in the Student Life category, with Bangor now ranked 13th in the UK, rising 18 places, reflecting the positive experience offered across the wider student community.
The rankings reflect feedback from the student community, University Compare uses a review-based methodology, collecting tens of thousands of ratings from students across four key areas. Reviews are scored on a scale of 1 to 5, and rankings are calculated using a weighted system, similar to platforms such as TripAdvisor or Airbnb.
This positive momentum is also reflected in the recently published 2027 Complete University Guide, where Bangor has risen six places to 49th.
Professor Nichola Callow, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Education & Student Experience, said, “It is fantastic to see Bangor once again recognised as the top university in Wales by our students, and to maintain a strong position within the UK top 20. These results reflect the continued dedication of our staff and the strength of the supportive, close-knit community we offer.
“We are particularly pleased to see such a significant rise in student life, which reflects the vibrant, inclusive experience our students benefit from both inside and outside the classroom. Our focus remains on ensuring every student is supported to succeed, develop and feel part of the Bangor community.”
