Ms Giovanna Culeddu

Overview

Giovanna is a Research Fellow in Pharmaco-economics at the Centre for Health Economics and Medicine Evaluation.

Prior to joining CHEME, Giovanna served Manchester City Council as a researcher. She holds a MSc in Research Methods and Statistics from the University of Manchester and a MA degree in International Development: poverty, conflict and reconstruction from the University of Manchester. Giovanna's training has primarily been in  quantitative researche methods.

Giovanna joined CHEME in 2015. Since then she has been appointed as the Health Economist of a variety of research projects and randomised controlled trials. These research led to several publications in prestigious journals icluding LANCET, and Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry.

Giovanna is undertaking a PhD in Pharmaco-economics as a staff candidate. Her thesis explores the applicability of different statistical methods (frequentist approach versus Bayesian) in the context of trial-based cost effectiveness analyses.

Apart from her research endeavors, Giovanna participates in professional societies and groups. She is a member of the Royal Statistical Society (RSS), the Health Economics Study Group (HESG), the European Respiratory Society (ERS), and the Health Technology Assessment International Society (HTAi). Further showcasing her commitment to her field, Giovanna represents the Early Career Researchers (ECR) for the School.

  • Public engagement in health economics: CHEME at the Bangor Science Festival.

    As part of Bangor Science Festival, researchers from CHEME invited visitors to explore the world of health economics through interactive activities and discussions. Attendees engaged in hands-on exercises designed to illustrate key economic concepts such as cost-effectiveness, resource allocation, and healthcare decision-making. The session encouraged children and their parents to think about the challenges of balancing NHS costs through engaging and accessible activities.

  • Public engagement in health economics: CHEME at the Bangor University's Community Day.

    As part of Bangor University’s Community Day, researchers from CHEME engaged the public in an interactive exploration of health economics. Visitors of all ages participated in activities designed to highlight key economic concepts, such as resource allocation, cost-effectiveness, and healthcare prioritisation. Through hands-on exercises and discussions, attendees gained insights into the challenges of balancing NHS costs and patient needs.
