Dr Martyn Kurr
Senior Lecturer in Marine Biology/Ecology
Overview
I undertook a master's in marine biology at Bangor University (2006-2010), before starting a PhD here in 2011. I taught at Newcastle University for three years, and was the marine lead for internationalisation. During this time I supervised two doctoral-level projects, and was made a full fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
It was a great pleasure to return to the School of Ocean Sciences in March of 2020 as a lecturer in marine biology and ecology. My research specialties include non-native species, algal ecology, and microplastic pollution. My teaching encorporates novel student-focussed techniques and active pedagogy to facilitate student engagement, and outside of the university I operate a private consultancy.
