Môr Ni Gwynedd event: In 2024, we launched the first-ever Pentre Bwyd Môr at @gwylfwydcaernarfon, an initiative that brought together academic research, culinary arts, and community engagement to celebrate our coastal heritage. This event was a collaborative effort involving chefs, artists, local organizations, and the Schools of Bangor University, designed to bridge the gap between academic work and public participation.
Our team facilitated a wide range of activities that highlighted the intersection of food, art, and science. Children and adults alike had the opportunity to engage with hands-on scientific demonstrations, participate in creative art projects, and explore the rich marine biodiversity of our region. The event served as a platform to showcase the innovative work being done within the Môr Ni Gwynedd project and emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in addressing coastal and environmental issues.
As we continue to develop the Môr Ni Gwynedd project, we aim to build on the success of Pentre Bwyd Môr by deepening our collaboration with both the academic community and the public. This event marked an important step in our ongoing efforts to make academic research accessible and relevant to the communities we serve.

4 May 2023 – 13 May 2025
Activity: Participation in Academic workshop, seminar, course (Organiser) - Wild Oysters Project: Citizen Science Programme
At Conwy Marina and Deganwy Marina, our oyster nurseries provided safe, controlled environments for native oysters to grow and release larvae into surrounding waters, contributing to population recovery. Alongside this, they acted as hubs for community science and public engagement.
Through our Citizen Science Programme, we:
- Delivered regular monitoring of oyster health and growth
- Recorded a wide range of marine species living around the nurseries
- Collected data on environmental conditions, including water temperature and salinity
Trained and supported local volunteers (age 18+) from diverse backgrounds, many with no prior experience, to actively contribute to restoration science
This programme not only advanced our restoration goals but also created opportunities for the community to learn about local marine life, develop new skills, and make a hands-on difference to oyster reef recovery.
