While some applications will be exempt from the requirement for formal peer review (please see the list below) ALL grant applications will be required to be submitted to the review system in order to ensure a consistent audit trail of applications at College level, including monitoring of outcomes and success rates. Please note, you are welcome to request internal review of applications, even if they are exempt.
SUBMISSION PROCESS
Applications that are exempt from internal review
A MINIMUM of 4 weeks before funder deadline:
- Ensure that your Head of School is aware of your intention to submit and has been fully briefed on any financial or resource implications.
- Complete the Peer Review proforma and indicate the reason your application is exempt from internal review.
- Submit just the completed proforma to cahssresearch@bangor.ac.uk, using the subject line GRANT PEER REVIEW.
All other applications
A MINIMUM of 4 weeks before funder deadline:
- Ensure that your Head of School is aware of your intention to submit and has been fully briefed on any financial or resource implications;
- Create a project in Worktribe and enter complete project costings. Your Research and Impact Support Officer/RISO (normally Dr Hazel Robbins) will be able to assist with this;
- Add your Head of School to the Worktribe project as an ‘Editor’. Do NOT click ‘Submit for Approval’ at this stage;
- Complete your application text as a PDF using the format and headings required by your funder. This may be in draft form but should be substantially complete. You should include a section explaining and justifying the resources requested if this is required by your funder;
- Upload the application text PDF to your Worktribe project;
- Complete the Peer Review proforma and email to cahssresearch@bangor.ac.uk using the subject line GRANT PEER REVIEW.
Review Timeline
Applications will be sent to at least one reviewer, and written feedback will be provided within 2 weeks. Following review, you will be able to revise your text, enter it into your funder’s online system (if applicable) and click submit. You will also finalise and submit your Worktribe project.
Exemptions
The following applications are exempt from the requirement for formal Peer Review, but you should still complete and submit the Peer Review proforma.
- Bids with a cost to funder of less than £20k
- Funding that will not be coded as Research (e.g. consultancy)
- Bids that are not led by Bangor University
- Bids that are not led by CAHSS

Grant development
Please note that formal peer review will normally be the last stage of a longer period of review and development. All colleagues are strongly encouraged to seek informal advice and mentorship from colleagues at an early stage, prior to submitting to the formal Peer Review system.
