We are developing a wrap-around set of Professional Learning packages to support schools. These packages will help schools align their literacy teaching with the best available evidence on effective approaches to teaching reading and writing in Welsh and English. All resources are bilingual. They reflect the distinctive linguistic, curricular, and educational contexts of literacy teaching across Wales.
The Professional Learning resources include:
- Online interactive modules for class teachers and school leaders. These modules take approximately 20-30 minutes each.
- A workbook to help practitioners identify areas of current evidence-based practice, as well as areas where changes in practice are likely to improve pupil outcomes.
- In-person one-day workshops and regular online support sessions to help school leaders and staff plan for and implement the changes they identify as important within their own school contexts.
Separate resources and training will be available for practitioners in primary and secondary schools, recognising the different literacy demands, curriculum contexts, and instructional approaches across phases.
We are currently developing these materials and will evaluate their use with schools during the 2026/27 academic year, before refining them for wider access across Wales.
