Overall aims and purpose

Yn y modiwl hwn, edrychir a sut y ffurfiwyd ac a ddefnyddiwyd (a gwrthodwyd) y cysyniad o’r ‘Celt’ a’r ‘Celtaidd’ yn y cyfnod Modern, dros ystod o ddisgyblaethau (e.e., ieithyddiaeth, archaeoleg, anthropoleg, celf, cerddoriaeth, llenyddiaeth, gwleidyddiaeth). Edrychir ar yr hyn a ystyrir yn ddeunydd ‘Celtaidd’ yn y gwahanol feysydd, a thrafodir y prif-ddadleuon a gafwyd wrth bennu ystyr i’r term. Ystyrir y rhesymau syniadaethol dros yr awydd i ddefnyddio’r cysyniadau hyn, a dylanwadau hyn oll ar hunaniaeth(au) ethnig a chenedlaethol y ‘Celtiaid’ eu hunain. Mae’r modiwl yma yn cyd-redeg â modiwl ‘The Celt: Sources of Evidence’, sydd yn graidd i’r MA ‘Y Celtiaid – The Celts’, ac mae’r modiwl yma’n symud y ffocws o’r empeiraidd i’r dehongliad, a’r defnydd o’r deongliadau hynny.

Course content

Edrychir ar agweddau ar bedwar prif faes: 1. Agweddau newidiol tuag at y ‘Celt’ mewn rhai meysydd academaidd. Hynny yw, datblygiadau methodolegol a syniadol mewn Ieithyddiaeth, Archaeoleg, Anthropoleg Gorfforol. 2. Y ‘Celtaidd’ yn y cyfryngau celfyddydol ar wahân i lenyddiaeth (yn enwedig Celf, Cerddoriaeth) 3. Y ‘Celtaidd’ yng nghyfnod Rhamantiaeth, gan ystyried sut yr aethpwyd ati i ail-ddarganfod ac ail-ddehongli llenyddiaeth ganoloesol (llenyddiaeth Gymraeg a Gwyddeleg yn enwedig); gellir edrychir ar ffigyrau megis Ossian, Iolo Morganwg a hefyd ar ddatblygiad Astudiaethau Celtaidd academaidd ym mhrifysgolion Ewrop. 4. Y ‘Celt’ gwleidyddol: theorïau cenedlaetholdeb, a’r rhannau a chwaraeodd (ac a chwery) ‘Celtigrwydd’ yn y byd gwleidyddol o’r 19-21g.

Bydd myfyrwyr hefyd yn datblygu eu sgiliau ieithyddol (fel arfer drwy astudiaeth bellach o Gymraeg Canol neu'r Wyddeleg).

Bydd myfyrwyr trothwyol (graddau C/50%) yn arddangos rhychwant o wybodaeth briodol – neu ddyfnder priodol – mewn o leiaf rannau o’r maes perthnasol, a byddant yn llwyddo’n rhannol o leiaf i greu dadl sy’n mynd i’r afael â’r pynciau a drafodir yn y traethodau. Byddant yn dangos ymwybyddiaeth o’r mathau o dystiolaeth graidd sydd ar gael, ac o’r ffordd y gellir defnyddio a dehongli’r dystiolaeth.

Da Bydd myfyrwyr da (graddau B/60%) yn arddangos galluoedd sicr yn yr holl agweddau a nodwyd yn y paragraff uchod.

Rhagorol Bydd myfyrwyr ardderchog (graddau A/70%) yn arddangos y galluoedd sicr hyn ar draws y meini prawf, yn ogystal â dyfnder arbennig yn eu gwybodaeth a/neu gywreinrwydd eu dadansoddi.

Learning outcomes

  1. Bydd ganddynt ddealltwriaeth ddatblygiedig o'r ieithoedd Celtaidd (ac yn enwedig Cymraeg Canol a/neu'r Wyddeleg).

  2. Byddant yn cynllunio, strwythuro a chwblhau dau draethawd academaidd fydd yn archwilio i agweddau penodol o’r maes.

  3. Byddant hefyd yn gallu cyflwyno a thrafod ar lafar faes yr astudiaeth unigol.

  4. Bydd y myfyrwyr yn deall sut y ffurfiwyd ac y defnyddiwyd y cysyniad o’r ‘Celt’ a’r ‘Celtaidd’ yn y cyfnod Modern.

  5. Byddant yn datblygu a chymhwyso medrau ymchwil at y maes penodol hwn, gan ddatblygu dealltwriaeth amryw o berspectifau ar ‘Y Celtiaid’ ar draws ystod o ddisgyblaethau a disgyrsiau, gan lunio barn ddatblygedig ar y syniadau a theorïau newidiol hyn.

  6. Byddant yn gallu cyflwyno dadleuon clir a dealladwy sy’n seiliedig ar dystiolaeth, am werth a phwrpas y gwahanol agweddau cysyniadol, gwleidyddol ac ideolegol a fabwysiadwyd tuag at ‘Y Celtiaid’.
