Overall aims and purpose

I gyflwyno myfyrwyr i themau gwleidyddol, cymdeithasol a diwyllianol allweddol hanes yr Unol Daleithiau a Chanada rhwng 1607 a 1867. I alluogi myfyrwyr i ddadansoddi ffilmiau a chynyrchiadau teledu fel testunau hanesyddol. I dynnu sylw myfyrwyr at gyfryngau mwyaf poblogaidd y ganrif ddiwethaf fel cyfathrebwyr y gorffennol i gynulleidfaoedd torfol I asesu dylanwadau ffilm a theledu ar ein dealltwriaeth o hanes.

Course content

Mae cyfresi ar alw fel THE CROWN a ffilmiau poblogaidd fel LITTLE WOMEN a 1917, yn tystio nid yn unig i gyseinedd parhaus hanes fel pwnc sy’n taro tant gyda gwylwyr yn y sinema, o flaen y teledu neu ar-lein, ond i bwysigrwydd cyfryngau gweledol fel pwynt mynediad allweddol ar gyfer ein hadeiladwaith a’n dealltwriaeth o’r gorffenol. Mae hyn yn wir am y cyfnod 1607 i 1867 yng Ngogledd America, a archwiliwyd mewn gweithiau mor amrywiol a ffilm animeiddiedig POCAHONTAS Disney (1995), a’r drama bywyd go iawn GLORY (1989), stori bataliwn milwyr du cyntaf yr Unol Daleithiau. Mae’r cwrs hwn yn archwilio’r cyfnod yma, y cyfnod pan ddaeth cytrefi Americanaidd Prydain i’r amlwg fel Unol Daleithiau America tra datblygodd eu cymydog a’u gwrthwynebydd i’r Gogledd, Ffrainc Newydd, i fod yn Canada. Yn ail, mae’n archwilio sut mae’r newdidadau hynny wedi cael eu cyfleu mewn sinema ac ar y teledu i gynulleidfaoedd torfol dros y ganrif ddiwethaf. Mae’r cwrs yn cynnwys themâu trefedigaethedd, imperialaeth, caethwasiaeth, rhyw, rhyddid, a thwf democratiaeth trwy lens y berthynas a phobloedd brodorol y cyfandir, gwrthdaro Ewropeaidd yng Ngogledd America, y gwrthdaro rhwng Catholigion a Phrotestaniaid, y Chwyldro Americanaidd, ehangu i’r Gorllewin, Chwyldro’r Farchnad, twf Diddymiad, y Rhyfel Cartref ac ymddangosiad Canada fel canlyniad.
