To understand the role of Organisational Change, both incremental and radical, in improving business performance through the use of systems and process approaches.

Understand how to identify the right climate for large systems change.

Knows that companies operate in a real world environment with various kinds of pressures. Understands the different types of pressures that can affect a company. Understands how companies can influence the environment in which they operate. Can give real life examples of why companies have had to change.

Understand Business & Process Reengineering (BPR) as a means of effecting large scale change

Can give the definition of BPR and can describe the stages of a BPR program Understands that BPR is just one method of effecting large scale change and can give details of its benefits and pitfalls Can form a reasoned argument as to whether BPR has happened in a particular case. Can compare and contrast BPR with other methods of effecting large scale change.

Understand how to use management systems as process analysis tools and means of establishing stability and improvement

Understands what a Management System is. Can describe the model for various management systems. Understands the benefits and problems associated with setting up and maintaining and certifying to a management system. Can successfully carry out a bench audit of a company’s documentation against a standard

Understand how to measure the effectiveness of organizations using the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) nine stage organization assessment model

Understand the concept of benchmarking and the different types. Can draw the EFQM model and give its weightings. Understands the logic of the RADAR scoring system. Can successfully score an Enabler and a Result from a case study.

Understand the relationship between Total Quality Management (TQM) and Business Process Reengineering (BPR). Understand how other improvement methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma can be used to improve business performance

Can explain the difference between TQM and BPR. Can explain the basic concepts of Lean and Six Sigma Can explain how TQM and BPR can be used as methods of improving performance. Can describe the approach taken by example companies to improve their performance
