Overview
Introduction to work-based learning The content and supporting literature will be individualised depending on the work based learning activity selected by the student and their manager, expertise within the School of Healthcare Science will be utilised accordingly. The remaining content will be adapted to the work based learning activity identified by the student and may include some or all of the following:
Facilitating Practice Development; Activity management Time and resource management; Change management - including negotiation and communication skills; clinical governance - clinical effectiveness; decision making process and models; Approaches to quality - including continuous quality improvement, tools, and techniques; Health care management and modernisation Research awareness - methodology and evaluation; Presentation skills.
Assessment Strategy
-threshold -Basic understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module. Students will be required to achieve a minimum of D- grade in the assignment to in order to pass the theory component of the module.
-good -very good understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module. Good understanding of surgical care issues. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade B- in the Grading Criteria.
-excellent -Excellent understanding of the facts and principles specific to the topics covered in this module. Good understanding of surgical care issues. This equates to a minimum mark of Grade A- in the Grading Criteria.

Learning Outcomes
- Critically evaluate the current policies and/or evidence-based practice for the development of the work-based learning activity
- Critically review the drivers, facilitators and barriers to improvements in the quality of care
- Explore and critically evaluate the evidence in relation to leadership and its application to healthcare practice
- Identify and critically evaluate relevant models of change management and their application to quality improvement in healthcare.

Description
Identify an aspect of practice in need of change or development. Write a 4000-word assignment critically analysing the issues related to this ‘problem’ or WBL activity, focusing upon quality improvement, suitable leadership styles, and suggest methods of enhancing or changing this aspect of practice utilising a change management model. Your essay should demonstrate how the change may benefit the patient experience, patient safety and patient outcomes.

Description
A presentation of the work-based learning activity will be necessary. The student is required to explain the rationale for the work-based learning activity and demonstrate understanding of the main practical implications for implementation within the health care setting. The student will also be required to demonstrate the process of implementation of the work based learning activity in accordance with the agreed learning agreement objectives. The work based learning activity must demonstrate an understanding of the key aspects of their field of knowledge in light of evaluation of the current evidence. The work based learning activity may take many forms, such as a: power point presentation, written report, research report, software package, no more than 1,500 words.
