Overall aims and purpose
Global concerns about healthcare associated infections and antimicrobial resistance persist. These concerns are also a major priority in the United Kingdom, linked to patient safety, which is the “cornerstone” of healthcare. The purpose of this online module is to equip individuals with the right knowledge and skills to provide leadership and promote best practice in infection prevention and control in health and social care settings. This module will provide an opportunity for participants to engage virtually with others with similar interests, and provide increased opportunity for networking. NB This is an online module delivered via Blackboard Ultra. Students will be required to have access to IT and up to date computer and software,, a microphone and headphones or speakers.

A selection of strategies will be used in the delivery of the online module in order to accommodate different learning styles, and make use of the participant’s professional experiences and expertise in infection prevention and clinical practice. Weekly learning units (week 1-10) will require 2 hours work. Weekly discussion board (week 1-10) will require 1 hour week engagement. Several strategies will be used in order to enhance the teaching and learning experience. These include: Online quizzes to recap on learning materials (session 1-10) Podcasts (to provide information about course set-up and management, and provide talks/lectures related to infection prevention and behaviour change) Participants’ engagement with blog (session 5 -10) Discussion board –to provide forum for discussion and support, and share feedback from others (session 1-10) |
