Overall aims and purpose

Encourage critical thinking to heighten understanding of the complex contextual factors associated with managing in contemporary organisations in reality. Provide a basis for understanding the complex and interrelated factors associated with organizing and managing in contemporary organizations.

Course content

Introduction to management and organisations; The 'big picture' external environmental context, PESTLE framework; Organisational structure; Influence of technology and work systems; Management strategy; Organisational culture; Employee motivation and work orientations; Conflict: rival frames of reference, conflict resolution, power.
