Overview
Nurses role in the care and management including monitoring of blood glucose, diagnostic investigations, nutritional requirements and health education of patients with diabetes. Evidence based practice and local policies and procedures associated with diabetic patients. Psychosocial impacts of diagnosis and coping. Multi-disciplinary team working including family and carers providing support in both primary and secondary care settings.
Learning Outcomes
- Analyse and review the main types of diabetes; their treatment and management, making reference to national & international guidelines.
- Critically appraise the evidence to support the strategies available to promote behavioral change, health promotion and self-care.
- Critically examine and evaluate the role of the multidisciplinary team when managing diabetic patients.
- Demonstrate an ability to synthesize and evaluate the evidence base to make sound judgements regarding treatment and patient management options.
