WNO Orchestra - A Midsummer Celebration
WNO Orchestra perform a midsummer themed programme of timeless favourites and a brand-new commission.
Mendelssohn, Finzi, Owain Llwyd, Vaughan Williams
Concertmaster and soloist: David Adams
Baritone: Aaron O’Hare
Mendelssohn: A Midsummer Night’s Dream Suite
Finzi: Let us Garlands Bring
Owain Llwyd: Gogarth
Vaughan Williams: The Lark Ascending
Mendelssohn: Symphony No 4 ‘Italian’
Vaughan Williams’ enduring beauty The Lark Ascending is performed in between two Mendelssohn masterpieces: the beautiful and romantic A Midsummer Night’s Dream Suite and his Symphony No 4, which depicts the Italian blue sky and open countryside.
Completing the programme is one of the most sympathetic settings of Shakespeare’s work, Gerald Finzi’s song cycle, Let us Garlands Bring, which was dedicated to Vaughan Williams on the occasion of his 70th birthday, and a new piece by Welsh composer Owain Llwyd, Gogarth, inspired by Llandudno’s Great Orme and its surrounding wildlife.
The renowned WNO Orchestra are joined by concertmaster, and soloist for the evening, David Adams and WNO Associate Artist Aaron O’Hare.
