Prestigious European history research grant for Bangor historian
Dr Katharine Olson, lecturer in medieval and early modern history at  Bangor, has recently been awarded a prestigious Bernadotte E. Schmitt  Grant for Research in European History by the American Historical  Association. This highly competitive grant was established in 1960  through a bequest from Bernadotte E. Schmitt, president of the American  Historical Association, which was first founded for the promotion of  historical studies in 1884. 
 
Olson earned her B.A. (honours) in History from the University of  Chicago and her M.A. in Celtic Languages and Literatures and Ph.D. in  History and Celtic Studies from Harvard University. Her current research  focuses on religion, culture, politics, and society in late medieval and  early modern Britain, Ireland, and Europe, with a particular focus on  Wales and the Marches.
