Connecting Classrooms Worldwide: Bangor University Online Winter Schools Engage 80 International Students!
From 5 to 23 January 2026, the Confucius Institute at Bangor University, in collaboration with the Confucius Institute Office at the China University of Political Science and Law, successfully delivered two online Winter Schools, engaging 80 international students through a high-quality digital learning experience.
The first Winter School focused on British Culture and Academic Writing and offered students a rich and engaging introduction to key aspects of British society, culture, and academic life. The second Winter School centred on Critical Thinking, supporting students to analyse complex ideas, evaluate arguments, and develop clear, well-reasoned academic perspectives.
Both programmes were delivered online by Antony Brooks from Bangor University. Through well-structured lectures, interactive discussions, and guided activities, students were encouraged to think independently, engage critically with course material, and build confidence in expressing their ideas in an academic setting.
Antony Brooks’ delivery was a key strength of the Winter Schools. His clear communication, academic expertise, and engaging online teaching approach created a dynamic and supportive learning environment. Students particularly valued his ability to encourage participation, foster critical discussion, and maintain high levels of engagement throughout the online sessions.
Student feedback reflected the strong impact of the Winter Schools. One participant commented:
“It was a pleasure to attend this Winter School. The teaching was engaging and well structured, and I gained valuable skills that will be very useful for my future studies.”
Another student highlighted the interactive nature of the sessions, saying:
“The best part of the Winter School was the interaction. The lecturer encouraged us to think independently, share ideas, and develop confidence in expressing our own arguments.”
Reflecting on the success of the programmes, Dr Lina Davitt, Director of the Confucius Institute at Bangor University, said:
“We were delighted to deliver two online Winter Schools this January, enabling students to engage with Bangor University’s academic strengths regardless of location. These programmes reflect our commitment to innovative teaching, critical enquiry, and meaningful international collaboration.”
The online Winter Schools further strengthened the partnership between Bangor University and the China University of Political Science and Law, highlighting a shared commitment to academic excellence, digital innovation, and global engagement in higher education.
