Students, staff, and members of the local community recently gathered for another lively “Discover Chinese Culture – Free Lunchtime Workshop” hosted by the Confucius Institute at Bangor University.

This session introduced participants to Mahjong, one of China’s most popular traditional games and a cherished social activity. Tutors from the Confucius Institute guided the group through the history of Mahjong, the meaning of the tiles, and the basic rules of the game.

After the introduction, participants quickly moved into practice rounds, learning the strategy of Mahjong while enjoying a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The room soon filled with conversation, concentration, and laughter as everyone tried their hand at the game.

The workshop offered a wonderful opportunity to discover a fascinating aspect of Chinese culture while connecting with others over a shared activity.
