Mahjong Lunchtime Session Brings Focus and Friendly Competition!
Our second Mahjong in Practice lunchtime workshop gave participants another opportunity to spend time with this fascinating traditional Chinese game.
After the introductory session, many were eager to return and try their hand at longer rounds of Mahjong. With support from the Confucius Institute tutors, players became more comfortable with the tiles and rules, gradually building confidence as the games unfolded.
The atmosphere in the room was relaxed and lively. Moments of quiet concentration were often followed by laughter or a small celebration when someone completed a winning hand. As the session progressed, participants began to notice patterns, think a little more strategically, and enjoy the rhythm of the game.
Mahjong has long been a social tradition in China, bringing people together around the table for conversation, strategy, and shared enjoyment. It was lovely to see that same spirit emerging during this lunchtime gathering in Bangor.
The Discover Chinese Culture – Free Lunchtime Workshops continue to offer a welcoming space to pause during the day, explore traditional Chinese arts and activities, and enjoy learning something new in a friendly environment.
