Bangor University Confucius Institute Inspires Primary School Teachers Through Language and Culture!
On 25 June 2026, Bangor University Confucius Institute was delighted to participate in the second International Languages Project professional learning event organised this month by Bangor University colleagues Nathalie Thomas and Ruben Chapela-Orri, and funded by the Welsh Government. Following the successful secondary school event held the previous week, this session welcomed primary school teachers from eight schools across North Wales to explore innovative approaches to language teaching in support of the Curriculum for Wales.
During the lunchtime exhibition, the Confucius Institute showcased the wide range of Mandarin language and Chinese cultural programmes available to primary schools, including classroom teaching, cultural workshops, teacher training, and school partnerships. Teachers also enjoyed a short presentation highlighting some of the Institute's most popular cultural activities.
The Confucius Institute also delivered an interactive Mandarin Chinese taster session, introducing teachers to basic pronunciation, simple everyday expressions, and engaging classroom activities that demonstrated how Mandarin can be introduced in a fun and accessible way.
The event provided an excellent opportunity for teachers to experience the benefits of combining language learning with cultural understanding. Bangor University Confucius Institute looks forward to continuing its work with primary schools across Wales, supporting teachers and inspiring young people to develop an interest in Mandarin Chinese and Chinese culture.
