Students experience real-world trading in annual Investment Challenge

More than 50 students from schools and colleges across North Wales took part in Bangor University’s annual Investment Challenge in June 2026, gaining a hands-on introduction to the fast-paced world of financial markets. The event also welcomed a visiting group of students from High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire.

The event brought together students for a live, interactive trading experience designed to build confidence in investment decision-making. From the moment the challenge began, students quickly immersed themselves in the role of traders, responding in real time to changing market conditions.

A strong sense of competition developed across the room, with students and teachers fully engaged throughout the session. Participants analysed market movements, balanced risk and made strategic decisions under pressure, mirroring the realities of professional trading environments.

The challenge created a dynamic and supportive learning environment, encouraging students to think critically, act decisively and collaborate with their peers. By applying theory to practice, students developed a deeper understanding of core investment principles, including risk management and trading strategy.

Events like the Investment Challenge are a key part of Bangor’s outreach activity, offering prospective students a valuable insight into studying finance and related subjects at university level. Through interactive experiences, students explore new areas of interest, build practical skills and gain confidence in their future study choices.
