Students’ Union recently hosted a student leader away day at the Welsh Mountain Zoo, bringing together 17 school representatives and student leaders for an afternoon of networking, collaboration and recognition. Funded through the Bangor Fund, the initiative provided an opportunity for student representatives to strengthen connections, share experiences and develop skills that support their important role in academic representation.
School Representatives play a key role in gathering student feedback and working with University staff to drive positive change within their schools. The away day supported the aims of the newly launched 2025–26 school representative system, which seeks to strengthen engagement, visibility and collaboration across the representative network.
The event offered a relaxed, off-campus environment where participants could build relationships across schools, exchange ideas and learn from one another’s experiences. It also provided an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the significant voluntary contributions made by student leaders throughout the academic year.
Students reported improved teamwork, stronger communication skills and a greater understanding of the diverse experiences of students across the University. Feedback highlighted the positive impact of the day on both leadership development and wellbeing, helping participants build a stronger sense of community with fellow representatives while taking time away from academic pressures.
