Khaled Hussainey, a Professor in Accounting at The Albert Gubay Business School at Bangor University, received the prestigious Fellowship following his nomination by the British Accounting & Finance Association (BAFA).
Spanning a range of research and practice areas including digital democracy, environmental sustainability, global justice, mental health and wellbeing, and social inequalities, the new Fellows have been elected for their significant contributions to social science.
Their work highlights the important role of the social sciences in understanding and helping to address some of the complex societal challenges facing the UK and the world today.
As well as demonstrating excellence in research and the professional application of social science, the new Fellows, who are drawn from a variety of backgrounds, disciplines and professions, have also made substantial contributions beyond academia, including in policy, public service, industry and civil society.
Professor Khaled Hussainey, who joined Bangor University in 2024, has more than twenty-five years of teaching experience across undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
He has a growing research reputation in the field of accounting and finance. His research interests focus on corporate narrative reporting, which involves taking financial statements and explaining the story behind the data.
He has been featured in the “World Ranking of Top 2% Researchers” database created by experts at Stanford University (USA).
In addition, he has published more than 300 articles published in peer-reviewed journals and has written a number of book chapters and edited several books.

The Academy’s Fellowship comprises 1,750 leading social scientists from academia, the public, private and third sectors. Its Fellows’ expertise covers the breadth of the social sciences, and their practice and research help people to understand and address some of the major challenges facing communities, society, places and economies.
All Academy Fellows are elected for their excellence in their fields and their substantial contributions to social science for public benefit. Selection is through an independent peer review which recognises their excellence and impact.
The Academy’s 74 new Fellows have been elected from 38 UK organisations, comprising 36 universities, as well as think tanks, research institutes, public research funding bodies, and from countries and regions beyond the UK, including Canada, China, Hong Kong, Macau, and New Zealand.
