Strong showing for Arts and Humanities subjects in Guardian University Guide 2027
Staff in Bangor University’s new School of Arts and Humanities are celebrating a strong showing in the Guardian University Guide 2027, with three subject areas achieving particularly high national rankings.
Languages and Linguistics is ranked 4th in the UK, while History is ranked 9th and Media and Film Studies 15th. The results provide a welcome recognition of the quality of teaching and the student experience across subjects that form an important part of the new School of Arts and Humanities.
The Guardian University Guide ranks universities across a wide range of individual subject areas, using measures including student satisfaction with teaching and feedback, student-to-staff ratios, continuation rates, value added and graduate career prospects. The subject tables therefore provide an important indication of how students experience their degree and the outcomes associated with their studies.
Professor Ruth McElroy, Head of the School of Arts and Humanities, said:
“This is wonderful news as we establish the new School of Arts and Humanities at Bangor University. It is a fantastic acknowledgment of the quality of our education in our subjects, rivalling the best Russell Group universities across the UK.”
Staff across the School are proud to see the quality of their work recognised in these national rankings. The results provide an encouraging start as the new School brings together a diverse range of subjects, disciplines and expertise, with a shared commitment to providing an excellent student experience.
