Thank you for your application for the Bachelor of Nursing programme at Bangor University School of Health Sciences. We are providing our interviews through in person interviews and we will send you an invitation via UCAS track. The interviews will take place at the School of Health Sciences, Fron Heulog Bangor. Your interview will be with a member of our academic team and could include a person who uses services, a carer or member of our practice placement partners.

The interviews will be taking place each Wednesday afternoon and Friday Morning from the 13th November 2024 until May 2025. During peak times for applications we will be holding full weeks of interviews and these will take place week commencing 6th January 2025 and 17th February 2025.
Your interview will start with a presentation about the Bachelor of Nursing programme and what you can expect from us and what we expect from you. We try to make the interview as relaxed as possible as we know it can be a stressful event for you.
You will need to arrive at 12:30pm promptly for the afternoon interview dates and 9.00am for the morning dates, we will send you the information about the date and time through UCAS Track, so keep looking at UCAS to check your information please.
What will happen during the interview?
During the interview process, you will be asked to present proof of identity in the form of a Passport or Driving License. You will also be required to provide evidence of your numeracy and literacy, ie GCSE Maths and Welsh or English certificates or equivalent qualifications such as Level 2 key skills numeracy/Literacy. Please note that only original certificates should be provided.
During your interview, we will use questions to consider how your qualities and values could contribute to person-centred care to meet the diverse needs of patients and clients.
We are looking at your motivation, qualities, values, motivation to study and ability to demonstrate an understanding of intelligent kindness in relation to your chosen field of nursing.
These will include questions such as the following:
- Tell us a bit about yourself – settle and relax question
- Why do you want to study nursing – motivation
- Why have you chosen … field, what is it about this field of nursing that interests you? Preparation
- What qualities and values do you have that would make you suitable to become a registered nurse?
- Can you give me an example of when you have had to use one of the core qualities for nursing; one of the 6Cs.
- We will ask you a competency-based question such as: ‘Tell us about a time when you demonstrated teamwork/communication/time management skills'
- What are your biggest strengths?
- What are your greatest weaknesses?
- What challenges do you think you may encounter and how do you think you will manage these?
- Practice scenario – what do you think you would do if …
- Current affairs questions to show how insight into health matters
- Transferable skills which will use examples from your UCAS statement. For example, you mentioned that you do part-time work in / volunteer for … what skills would this bring to being a student nurse and future registrant?
- What are you most looking forward to as a student nurse / as a registered nurse
At the end of the interview, you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
What happens following the interview?
We will inform you of the outcome of your interview through UCAS Track so it is important that you check your account regularly. It may take around two working weeks for your interview outcome and offer to be processed.
Have I got everything ready for my interview?
- Passport or driving licence for proof of identity.
- GCSE Maths and Welsh or English certificates or equivalent qualifications such as Level 2 key skills numeracy/Literacy. If you have not yet sat these or are waiting for results, this will form a part of your conditional offer if successful at interview.
You must have the original documents of the above to show your interviewer.
