Discover Economics Online Conference
The Discover Economics Online Conference is designed for year 11-13 students, offering an engaging series of workshops designed to give young people a deeper understanding of economics. Hosted by The Albert Gubay Business School at Bangor University, in partnership with the Welsh Government.
Through real-world examples and interactive activities, participants will explore how economics shapes everyday decisions and discover the diverse career paths open to professional economists. The workshops will also be offered in Welsh on a Wednesday.
The three workshops will run over a three-month period, taking place from 9:15-10:15.
Workshops include:
February: Monday 9th (English) and Wednesday 11th (Welsh).
Workshop 1: Why prices matter – Explore real-world applications of price elasticity of demand and understand how prices influence behaviour.
March: Monday 23rd (English) and Wednesday 25th (Welsh).
Workshop 2: Mind the rate! – An interactive workshop on interest rates, personal finance, and the impact on everyday decisions.
April: Monday 27th (English) and Wednesday 29th (Welsh).
Workshop 3: Tariffs in action: Who wins, who loses? – Understand how trade tariffs affect consumers, businesses, and economies.
