My country:

Held on 1 October 2026, the conference aimed to inspire Year 11 and sixth form students by showcasing the real-world relevance of economics and highlighting the diverse academic and career opportunities available through studying the subject.

Throughout the day, learners participated in interactive workshops designed to bring economics to life. Activities included exploring international trade through the Trading Places world economy game, investigating market structures, and examining the concept of diminishing returns through practical, hands-on exercises.

Learners also had the opportunity to engage with young economists from the Welsh Government, including Regan Hughes and Llŷr Griffiths, alongside Dr Rhys ap Gwilym from Bangor University. A student-led interview session offered valuable insights into careers in economics, helping learners understand the different pathways available beyond school and college.

The conference reflects the School's continued commitment to widening participation, raising aspirations and inspiring the next generation of economists. By bringing together education and government perspectives, the event demonstrated how economics connects to everyday life and plays an important role in addressing wider societal challenges.
